- AGM –

Our Annual General Meeting will take place on the 7 th April , at 7 pm , in Grimond Seminar room 7 .

The AGM is the occasion to discuss how things went this year and plan the future. We're looking forward to hearing your suggestions concerning training, socials, etc.
And most importantly, we will vote for next year's committee !

I know everyone will be very busy with essays, but please do attend the AGM. We only ask you to sacrifice one hour, and it is very important for the club.

If you want to run for a position in the committee, represent and help organise the club next year, please fill out one of the application forms and give/send it to me (Julie). The final deadline is Sunday 5 th April .

To run for a position or vote for the next committee, you need to have officially joined the club. A sabbatical officer from Kent Union will be present with an (accurate) list of registered members.

- Film Social –

Our next social takes place tomorrow! We're going to watch some kickass Taekwondo films and have a relax evening together. The social starts at 7:30 in GLT3 ( Grimond Building , Lecture Theatre 3). Please bring your own drinks and snacks, your friends are all most welcome!

We might go to a pub on campus or to the Works afterwards, depending on what people want to do.

- New training times –

From now on, the training sessions will start earlier. They will start at 17:15 on Tuesday and 20:15 on Thursday. You do not want to be late without a good excuse!

- Fight camps –

Please do not forget the deadlines for the Aylesbury and Hungary training camps!

If you plan to go to Aylesbury , bring the application form and £10 deposit and give it to me on Tuesday or Thursday ( Thursday being the final deadline ). If you cannot make it to training, please contact me and we'll arrange a meeting.

If you have decided to go to Hungary , please remember to pay the £50 deposit before March 31 st (keeping in mind that a payment takes a few days to arrive, don't wait until the last day!).

Here are the bank details:

Bank Name:  Barclays Bank Plc
Account Name: A F Dorrian
Account Number: 40473146
Sort Code: 20-46-73

Send the application form to student.taekwondo@googlemail. com .

- Annual General Meeting –

Our AGM will take place on the 7 th April , the last Tuesday of the term, at 7 pm . We will discuss various topics, ask your opinion about what you would like to change in training sessions and socials, and most importantly elect the committee for the next academic year!

If you want to run for a position in the committee, please read through the information sheet and complete the nomination form. You have until Sunday 5 th April to fill out the nomination form and to give it to me.

The AGM is very important for the club. I know everyone will be very busy with essays, but it is crucial that many people come to the AGM and vote for the candidates that they think will be a good committee member. All we ask for is to sacrifice one hour to help the club.

After the social, there is a possibility of going to Ruby Tuesday, if people are up to it. I will indicate the location of the AGM later on.

- Grading –

Grading will take place next Sunday 29 th March. To help you revise your poomsaes, I have scanned the patterns you need to know. I have also added a ‘Taekwondo dictionary' to help you learnt the names of the kicks and punches.

You can download the file here: http://rewrote.org/TKD/ poomsae.zip

- Hoodies –

Alice, Guy, Jane, Rea and Matt P. still need to contact me to get their hoodies!

For all those who are already proudly representing the club around campus, one piece of advice: Make sure you wash the hoodies inside out, else the Korean writing on the sleeve (indomitable spirit) might wash off.

10/03/2009

The Aylesbury fight camp takes place from 10 th to 12 th April.

I need to contact the BSTF to book the places and accommodation. So please print the application form, fill it out and bring it to training with £10 deposit. The deadline is 25 th March .

If you want any further information about it, come and talk to me :)

The Hungary fight camp lasts 7 days, from 10 th to 16 th August.

The first deposit (£50) has to be paid by March 31 st . The second deposit (£100) is due on 30 th June. As this training camp is a bigger commitment, I would like you to think about it now. Print the form, fill it out and give it to me by March 31 st . I will give you the details of the bank account where you need to pay the deposits. Come and talk to me about it.

Talk to Antoni if you want to know more about this training camp. He went last year and had an awesome time!

By the way, these deadlines cannot be extended. I strongly encourage you to give me the forms and pay the deposits as soon as possible.

See you all soon at training!

P.S: Check out Inquire tomorrow, there should be an article about the club and the BSTF nationals ;)

- 118 Social –

WEDNESDAY 25th February, 7:30 pm we will be kicking off the 118 Social at Mungos, and then head to the Venue later on!

The plan is to dress up as 118 people and get crazy ;) So basically what you will need to do is to get yourself a white t-shirt ( H&M do cheap ones usually) and make the 118 logo on it!! Moustaches are of course a must!!

Queue jumps for the Venue will be available. You can find more information (like pictures of last year's social and 118 clips) on the facebook page:

http://www.new.facebook.com/ event.php?eid=64563519488

We have decided to organise a workshop for the 118 t-shirts! We booked a room (Grimond's building, Seminar Room 3) from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesday night, so let's all get together after training and have fun while preparing the social. Please bring a white t-shirt and markers (if you have any).

- Membership –

Right now the Kent Union website to join societies is down for maintenance.

If you paid for the membership but didn't get added to the TKD group, please tell me so, and I'll sort it out. Please add a proof a payment to your email.

We'll have to book the hotels in advance, so please get in touch with us if you want to participate.

A fight camp is an amazing experience, and helps you progress a lot in a short amount of time. There is no minimum level required, and we hope that lots of you people will attend and proudly represent UKC TKD!

A longer training camp takes place in Hungary , from the 10 th to the 16 th August .

The cost is £150, which includes everything except the flights and the optional (but traditional) stay in Budapest before and/or after the fight camp.

There are 150 places, allocated on a first come first served basis. There is no minimum belt requirement.

A few members have already shown much interest for the fight camp, Antoni and me (Julie) are definitely going.

If you want to know how awesome the camp is, just ask Antoni, who went last year and can't wait to go again.

The training plan is the following:

6:30 - 8:00 : outdoor training (Fitness, stretching, ki energy building)

8:00 - 9:00 : breakfast

11:00 – 13:00 : basics, poomsae, self-defense, technical training, referee training, breaking

13:00 – 14:00 : lunch

If you're interested, have a look at the information pack I attached to the email.

The BSTF also organises a 3-weeks long trip to Korea , from the 28 th June to the 19 th July .

The cost is £1000, which includes everything (flights, accommodation, training, …). There is an advisory minimum level of blue belt.

If you're interested, have a look at the invitation form which is attached to this email, and get in touch with the BSTF asap.

1) On Tuesday after training we will be having a simple election for a new committee spot.

The committee has nominated Antoni for the committe and Giles has nominated himself to run for the position. They will shortly say why they want to be in the committee, and we will vote for who we want. So please do stick around for 10-15 min after training so we can do this!

  1. MEMBERSHIP
Week 6 of the Academic Year is now coming to an end, and we hope you have so far all enjoyed training with us.
In fact we hope you have enjoyed it so much that you will join!!!
Please purchase the membership ( 20 squids for training the entire year, plus an a-ma-zing tshirt) to help us achieve the budget
we need to keep the club running smoothly.
Some of you have been experiencing difficulties in obtaining membership, please contact us, so we can help you out!!

     2 . SOCIALS

Pizza&Movie Social:
This is a very spontaneous and informal social. Planned for coming Monday, the 10th of November.
We will meet at a Lecture Theatre on Campus (which one exactly tbc), watch one or two kick-ass movies
whilst munching on some yummy pizza :) all very casual.
Some of us will head to the Works afterwards, do join us if you feel like a dance!!

Streetfighter Social:               THIS IS IT!!!
Guys, you seriously have to come to this social. The Streetfighter Social is THE highlight in our social itinerary and
has always been a fantastic event!!!
This is your chance to party it up with the TKD Crew AND impersonate your favourite characters!!

Now, being called the Streetfighter Social, it's obviously all about the game characters (Streetfighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat), however we also indulge any Anime/Cartoon/Film characters, as long as they are in the Fighter Theme (Xmen, Ninja Turtles, etc)...
So get creative and use those Blue Peter skills of your childhood and dazzle us with the outcome!

26/11/2008   8:00 pm, The Lighthouse (Campus)
more information on fancy dress shops, character ideas, etc will follow....

DON'T FORGET, YOU CAN BRING AS MANY FRIENDS TO THE SOCIALS AS YOU WANT!! They don't have to be members or even have an interest for Taekwondo, it's all about mingling and socialising!

  3. TOURNAMENTS

We have many going on. Many of you know about the BSTF Tournament coming up at Cambridge on the Sat, the 15th.
Unfortunately not all of you who want the extra insurance necessary to compete in this tournament, have been able to get it yet (as Sab is away)
and will probably not get in time either. We do apologise for this,
However, if there are any members who desperately want to take part in this tournament, let us know IMMEDIATELY!!!
There are many other tournaments coming up nevertheless:

Sun, 23/11/2008                    Fight League Tournament
This is a great place to have your first go. The Fight League Tournament is organised by Sabomnim Phil with his club U.T.A. Kent,
and will take part in Sellindge.  It's a very friendly atmosphere and is an ideal place to experience a Sparring match.
Entrants will be split up into groupd of 4 or 5, with people of similar age and grade. You fight for points and the person with the most points in
              their league, wins!  WTF rules.
              Entry fee is 10 pounds.
Contact us for further information, if you have questions or are interested in competing.
Let us know if you want to enter asap, so we can figure out transport to and from the location.

Sun, 30/11/2008                  London Open  & Sheffield Open
November being a very busy month for competitions, there are two tournaments happening on the 30th. One is in London, the other at
              Sheffield University.
Both have their pros and cons, and we do not want to push a particular event, as it's all down to the individual.
For now we would just like to know asap who of our members is up for competing in any tournment or spectating.
Depending on the group, we will meet up and talk about both tournaments, with the option of splitting up into two groups if need be.
(However we would like to reinforce Team Spirit here, it is always daunting to compete at a tournament - so the larger the group, competitors
and spectators, the more fun it is!!!)

             4. GRADING
The first Grading of the Year will be held on the 7th of December - probably at Sellindge, depending on our number of participants.
It is still a while away, however we would like to remind you that if you are thinking about Grading (i.e. trying out for a new belt colour)
then you need to up the ante and itensify your training (especially the Patterns).
If this is your first Grading - do not worry - it's not too hard. However we would like to see a certain degree of commitment and enthusiasm.

            5. T-SHIRTS, HOODIES & DOBOK PRINT

This is probably the most read bit of the marathon-email.
Many of you have already asked the committee about t-shirts and hoodies and the infamous Printing on the Dobok Leg.
We are currently thinking about redesigning the hoodies (just a tad) and will post out an email once we have decided on the new look.

Also there will be an email going around about ordering the Training T-Shirts. You have seen them on some of the "old" members,
if you check out our website www.ukc-taekwondo.co.uk and look under "Merchandise" you can check out available colours and styles.

Some of the old members are sporting pretty snazzy "UKC TAEKWONDO" printing down their dobok legs - once you have your doboks handed
out to you, we will put an order in for those of you who would like the print. It should cost sth around 8 pounds, but we will let you know the details.

05/10/2008

Hope you all enjoyed the first week of our taster sessions! And we hope to see you this coming week at training as well!

BUT, This Monday 6 th October, we have our freshers pubcrawl !!!! It's a MUST!

We will be meeting everyone in K-BAR at 6:30, and heading off to town at 7:15. Please try to come at 6:30 as we all will leave together to town, and continue our pubcrawl! So please come along and bring your friends!:)

If you by any chance got a taekwondo badge that were given out at the sports fair, please have one with you, as we will be getting discounts on drinks in the various pubs we will be going to. If not, don't worry we will get some more! Hope to see you all tomorrow for an amazing pubcrawl!

30/09/2008

First of all we would like to congratulate you on putting your name on the UKC Taekwondo Emailing list last Friday, good on ya! This is the first step towards a membership and a bloody great time!! As you might have read on our flyers, we train hard and party hard . This duality make UKC Taekwondo so popular with members of all ages, gender and nationalities .  It is up to you how intense your Taekwondo experience is - you can come to both of our training sessions and the Sparring Training on top of that; or you can just pop up every other week. No one will force you to do anything you don't want to. But we do ask that you at least try. Training Sessions are:         Tuesday: 5 - 7pm ,  Main Hall (Sports Centre)         Thursday: 8 - 10 pm , Small Hall (Sports Centre)         Saturdays: 1 - 3 pm , Dance Studio (Sports Centre)

Due to insurance reasons we have to inform you that Taekwondo is a Martial Art , and that injuries may well occur (accidents happen!). However, it is far less scary as it sounds, you will probably only receive minor bruises and grazes (if any).   Many amazing socials await you in the coming months, starting off with our 1st Pub crawl of the year on the 6th of October (next Monday). This is a great opportunity to get to know other (prospective) members, experience the pubs in town and generally have a good laugh. We will send out another email tomorrow with further details of the when and where. More copies of our Rough Social Itinerary will be available at Training later today, in case you have lost yours. If you are in touch with the technical wonders of the internet, you can join our group on facebook: http://www.new.facebook.com/ group.php?gid=2230946700 Or check out our Website: http://www.ukc-taekwondo.co.uk

If you have any questions or other feedback, please don't hesitate to contact us: ukctaekwondo@googlemail.com We hope to see you all at training this week and we wish you a successful academic year!
