26/06/2007: Taekwondo camp in Hungary

For those who are interested, the Universum Taekwondo team is holding a Taekwondo summer camp, which is being held in Hungary from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 29th July. The fee for the week is £120, which covers accomadation, food, training sessions, and social activities. This is an amazing opportunity to improve your Taekwondo skills, meet new people, and have a great time!

Please feel free to view the invitation letter and the training schedule.

(NOTE: The price of the flight will be more expensive than stated in the letter due to short notice).

Further information can be found here.

Anyone interested should e-mail the club and let us know promptly.

28/05/2007: End of year meal and club t-shirt pre-orders

MEAL INFO:

The end of year , meal will be at 9:00pm on Friday (1st June), we'll be meeting at the westgate wetherspoons (the small one) at 7:00pm.  There is a 'bring your own wine' policy as long as everyone buys a main meal.  Main meals are like at most £12, and with 'bring your own wine' it should be pretty cheap.

The restaurant have asked me to stress that it is strictly wine only that we are allowed to bring (White/red/rose). Anything else such as beer, soft drinks, etc... can be purchased from their bar with the meal.

Awards, Certificates and prizes will be handed out at the event, and all our instructors (Mark, Mark's dad, Simon, Matt Price) will be there so should be a great evening!

If you can't make it at all (no matter how close it is to the meal) please could you let me know via here or preferably facebook (or my mobile if you have it).

T-SHIRT PRE-ORDER INFO:

Due to overwhelming demand we're going to order the t-shirts sometime next week after the meal.  If you would like one at the discount price of £10 a T-shirt (and the option to choose any colour you like) then please e-mail back and let us know. Please bear in mind all the t-shirts we'll be selling next year will be PLAIN BLACK with white on them, so if you do want another colour this is your only opportunity.  You can bring the cash to the meal on Friday - or if you see any of the committee around then just hand it to them.

We've already had several people wanting them, but if you didn't say what colour or size you would like could you please give us a quick e-mail to confirm? (sizes and colours below) thanks! Also, if you're not around over the summer but would definately want it for over the summer (if you cant wait until you come back to Canterbury) then we'll be happy to post them.  Cost would be £2 for UK mainland, slightly more for international postage
(please email and ask for a quote).

The T-shirts are good quality (not the cheap bog-standard type) Hanes T-shirts and are 'fitted' (i.e. they should be tight rather than baggy, like you get from topman or Blue Inc for example).  The design will have 'UKC TAEKWONDO' in small stencil font on the right breast, and have the UKC tkd logo in medium to small on the left sleeve.  These t-shirts are of a quality for training in classes, in the gym - and will look cool enough to go out in
as well.

Sizes and colour available are listed below...

Sizes available (Chest measurement):
S = 36" | M = 38" | L = 40-42" | XL = 44" | XXL = 46"

Colours available (please bear in mind the logo and design will be in white, so will stand out better on darker t-shirts - for this reason white is not available):

Apple Green, Ash, Aubergine, Beige, Black, Brown, Burgundy, Candy Pink, Chocolate, Denim Blue, Forest, Heather Grey, Ice Bkue, Indigo Blue, Khaki, Lavender, Mandarin, Maroon, Navy, Red, Royal Blue, Sand, Sky Blue, Straw, Sun Flower, Zinc.

01/05/2007: Socials and additional training

As well as the bar crawl and end of year meal, we're going to hold an 'away trip' social around the weekend of either the 12/13th or 19/20th.

Paintballing has been scrapped and now the idea is either a day trip to Thorpe Park (check out http://www.thorpepark.com if you don't know what that is) or a day trip/night party on the beach. Beach Party would include BBQ/Bonfire (depending on local restrictions) Volleyball, beer, antics and fun.

Whichever we do will be decided by club interest so please vote here:

http://www.chatbear.com/unity2/6491/569,1177886803,32277/1040336?v=flatold

If not many people vote either way we'll scrap the idea altogether so if you're not sure but would like to do 'something' or you don't mind which, please also comment on the board :)

Upcoming Socials include a pub crawl in town (night to be decided by those organising it), so keep an eye out for that.

Most importantly, the end of year meal shall be on the Friday the 1st June at Marlowes.  So far all the instructors and assistant instructors have confirmed they are coming!

This event is strictly for members only, and you must e-mail to confirm your place.  At the moment we're negotiating with the Union and all members should get a £5 dicount.  Most meals are about £10 anyway so that means you should get the meal half price (£5 off at most).

Also the restaurant has a 'Bring your own Wine' policy whereby you can bring as many bottles of wine as you like and drink them with your meal for free.  Unfortunately this does not apply to beer, but it does mean if you do like wine the night will be even cheaper!

You must confirm your place if you wish to come as we need to put a deposit down on the number of people who are attending, so if you wish to come please e-mail the club to let us know, just say: 'count me in' or 'i'll be there' or something.  We must know by the end of this week who wants to come and also please include your full name (spelt correctly).

Training for all clubs stops over Easter, however if you have bought the extra insurance/membership with UCTA you're more than welcome to attend their training sessions in Folkestone or Sellindge.  Members of the committee are going to be training over there regularly so if you need a lift - get in touch.

Otherwise, Mark and myself are going to be doing supplementary training over the summer term and vacation in the form of bag work, Gym training and maybe some antics out on the fields with pads and sparring gear.  If you want to get involved let us know, we're always up for having additional members who are committed to some serious training.

11/04/2007: Change to Easter training

There's a slight change to training over Easter, Tuesdays will continue with lessons as normal - whereas Thursdays are now for Poomse Private Practice until Martin returns where we will have a formal lesson under his instruction (probably the last thursday of Easter). This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to finetune their patterns/poomse before the summer, and Martin's lesson will hopefully be all on Poomse and fun kicks to make sure you know what to work on over the summer.

28/03/2007: Grading Results

Many congratulations to:

Cristian Bullimore - achieved 9th Gup (Yellow Stripe)

Ahmed Ahmed - achieved 9th Gup (Yellow Stripe)

Matt Green - achieved 8th Gup (Yellow Belt)

We hope the whole club will join us in congratulating these members on their
brilliant grading results.

If you have been inspired to try and grade and you're around over the Easter
holidays, there is a grading in Sellinge the last weekend of April, please
let one of the committee members know if you'd like to attend.

All the best,
Mike
UKC TKD Captain

24/03/2007: Grading information

As per Martin's E-mail the other day, everyone should know that the grading shall be on Tuesday the 27th (this tuesday).  Grading is open to anyone and everyone with the extra insurance/membership and shall take place from 6:00-6:30pm (during the normal lesson). If you have any further questions please ask Mike as Martin is currently away in Geneva; contact details available on the committee page.

12/03/2007: Socials up and coming include:

E-mails to come as events unfold.

Also we're looking for suggestions to make us stand out at next years Freshers Fair - and we're open to any and all suggestions from you guys!  If you have any ideas (or half an idea) please, please, please let us know by e-mailing the club account ukctaekwondo@googlemail.com or speaking to any of the committee.

All the best,

The Committee

10/03/2007: Annual General Meeting

This years AGM was a complete success (in that it only overran by five minutes - a taekwondo club record!), here are the main news to come out of the AGM - but don't forget the minutes from the meeting will soon be posted in the official AGM section for all club members to read.

Congratulations to the following for their election success and your official UKC TKD Club Committee for 2007-2008:

Many congratulations to all our successful candidates - voted in unanimously by official club vote! (lets hope the Kent Union elections go as smoothly).

All the best,

The Committee (this years that is!)

Committee elections - Nominations for 2007 - 2008

Nominations are now officially open for running for the committee next year (September 2007 to August 2008). Please see the nomination pack for information on: Nominations so far, Committee Member Roles including a brief outline of what's available and expected of committee members, Stipulations and points to remember if you are considering running or nominating someone for the Committee, and a nomination/application form. You can get the nomination pack here.

The stipulations listed here are by no means exclusive, but are the main points people are likely to need to know.

So far there are four people running for different positions, 3 returning Committee Members running and one new person running.  Therefore there is at least one vacant position we would be keen to fill, and of course you are free to run for any position you like.

If you would like to nominate someone you may do so without asking them, however we will contact them and ensure they are interested in running - we will keep your nomination of them secret if you wish.

Nominations close 24 hours before the AGM of 10th March.
